What was interesting to you about the book? What part did you enjoy reading? What technique did the author use that made you sit back and say (something like), "Dang... I see what he did there... huh: clever."
Please comment to this post with a suggestion for an essay prompt. The topic can be something that you know well, or something that you're curious about. It can be about the plot, or a character, or comparisons between the time period of the book and now, it can be about the way Fitzgerald writes or Nick narrates, or it can be something brand new that you invent. You are welcome to talk with colleagues or do some research online (of course, if you adopt someone else's idea, be sure to give them credit and cite your source where appropriate).

One thing that was interesting to me was the way that the author wrote the story when Gatsby did everything for daisy and it backfired i think it started during Summer then it all went to Fall, during summer everything blossom and during fall everything dies its quite funny because i dont think many people would've seen that .
ReplyDeleteOne thing that this book really made me feel is hate/disliking characters. So the prompt that I think will be ok would be “ describe who the most unlikeable person is in the great gatsby”
ReplyDeleteAnother thing that was interesting to me was when daisy was driving while Gatsby was with her. Daisy ends up running over Ms. Wilson and on the way back Gatsby come walking back like nothing ever happend he didn't seem nervous or worried the only thing he said was that he would take the blame for what she did. It surprised me because i don't kbow a single person who would go that far for someone they love.

ReplyDeletesomething that caught my attention is the way that nick cared about Gatsby.Nick knew about the things gatbsy did but never even thought of selling him out about it.He even tried to tell him to leave the city. But yet he was the only one to show up to his funeral. What is so great about Gatsby that nick needed to care for him?
ReplyDeleteOne prompt that i think would be ok is "explain why there are so many dishonest character's in the great Gatsby".
ReplyDeleteOne of the thing that I found interesting was the way that the author made out Gatsby's character to be. So I would really want the essays topic to be about Gatsby and how what he did was right or wrong, or about how we can relate to him to some degree.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I found interesting is how much Gatsby is willing to do for Daisy. Daisy is marry with Tom and yet talks with Gatsby she kill a women and Gatsby takes the blame for it. Later on we find out Daisy chooses Tom and not Gatsby knowing so well Tom cheated and still stays with him. Gatsby knows that Daisy went with Tom but yet he still goes and looks for her.
ReplyDeleteone thing i found intresting was why does gatsy got to be so selffish i mean in my opinion he kind of deserve not having people attend at his funeral but it was kind of sad and i quite didnt understand daisys death it was confusing for me
ReplyDeleteOne thing i found interesting was how the author wrote the book the way Nick saw thing and in his point of view. He showed us how Nick was thinking about everything around him with Gatsby and Daisy and how tom would act towards daisy.
ReplyDeleteI liked the part where love was involved like where he did so much for her and waited outside for hours, that’s about it because daisy played him
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I questioned about the book was why Gatsby was so willing to take the fault for Myrtle's death. It's not like Daisy treated him the best. Why did he feel the need to protect her so much when he knew she wouldn't do the same.
ReplyDeleteI found the book interesting the second half when everything started connection and why Gatsby lived at that mansion and not any other he was a great guy and had a great life but he just should lived for himself.
ReplyDeletePrompts I recommend would be
Do you think Gatsby should’ve moved on?
Would you do The same as Gatsby?
Do you think Gatsby was smart for what he did?
One thing that I questioned about the book was why Gatsby was so willing to take the fault for Myrtle's death. It's not like Daisy treated him the best. Why did he feel the need to protect her so much when he knew she wouldn't do the same.
ReplyDeleteSomething that caught my attention from reading The Great Gatsby was how mysteries the author made Gatsby be and how there were many rumors about him. Another thing that caught my attention is how a lot of people would show up to his parties, but at the end of the day not one person showed up to his funeral.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I found interesting is how the author chose to write the book. The way he wrote made you feel almost as if you were experiencing the same emotions as the characters. For example, when the characters felt confused to the point of almost being sick or nauseous, he wrote long run on sentence that were confusing and made you feel the exact same way while still remaining beautifully write with amazing hints of imagery.
ReplyDelete2 things that I liked about this book is how Nick really cared about Gatspy when no one really cared for him. And the fact that Gatspy was so inlove with Daisy but she didnt want him because he was broke. Once he got rich, daisy went after him for his money.
ReplyDeleteSomething that I found interested in this book was about how mostly everyone was fake.Espically those around Gatsby. The only part I really like was when nick was be honest and talk about how tom been cheating with mrs.wilson..

ReplyDeleteSomething I found interesting about this book was how Gatsby was so crazy in love with Daisy. The part I enjoyed reading was when Gatsby asked Nick to invite his cousin over for tea cause he was shy. I also enjoyed reading the part when Tom and Gatsby had confrontations about Daisy and who she loved. I think a good prompt could be " why did Gatsby do what he did and what didn't he just realize that Daisy isn't worth it"?
ReplyDeleteThe part I found to be interesting was the very beginning when Nick remembered what his dad told him about what he should think about whenever he feels like criticizing anyone. I enjoyed reading the last part where not one single person, except for Nick, showed up to Gatsby's funeral. The technique i was most intrigued with was how Gatsby always threw parties and a bunch of people came and most of the time he was surrounded with people and yet he never seemed to connect with them nor them with him and with all that being said, he was alone even in the crowds of people. He was alone. My prompt would be:
ReplyDeleteWhy do we seek out the love of others instead of our own?
One thing that I found interesting about the Great Gatsby was how Fitzgerald used imagery to make the book seem more realistic. One prompt could be: How did Fitzgerald use imagery throughout the book?
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I found interesting was that Gatsby only threw parties because he wanted Daisy to notice about them and go to one. The part I enjoyed reading was how it said that Gatsby saw a green light on the deck then later on finding out that it represents Gatsby's hopes and dreams for the future with Daisy. A good "technique" was that He used the weather to set a mood for example when it was raining it was to foreshadow Gatsby and Daisy
ReplyDeleteI love how the story is basically telling me how no matter how hard you try you really can't force or try to make someone love you back
ReplyDeleteThis book mentioned characters that are very well unusual and very hard hearten. Daisy and Tom Buchanan, these characters, I always had to say about them. The say is really more of observations and questionings on why they would be this way. These characters always caught the attention.
ReplyDeleteSomething that I found interesting in the great gatsby was the love gatbsy had for daisy. I found this interesting because he really took the blame for daisy when she was really driving. I can’t understand how Gatsby felt about her if he really took the blame for that.
ReplyDeleteI found it interesting that gatsby had so much money and had a house built to try to get closer to daisy. I enjoyed the part when without hesitation tom punched myrtle in the nose and that's the type of person daisy wants to stay with. What made me stay reading when they had moments that made me get mad. For example when daisy doesn't even care that her husband tom is going out with other girls and doesn't hesitate.

ReplyDeleteI found this book very interesting, especially Gatsby I wanted to know why he was so hooked on Daisy. Why couldn't he move on from her, why was he trying to bring the past back so badly what is so Great about Daisy? Instead of what is so great about Gatsby, it should be What's so great about Daisy?
ReplyDeleteOne thing that was interesting about the book would probably be the relationship of Gatsby daisy and tom. The park that i enjoyed reading would be in chapter 2 when many things went down. Something that the author did was how he foreshadowed things on how the weather was. i probably rate this book at 7 because of how good and different the story was compared with other books.
ReplyDeleteSomething that's always been on my mind is if Nick was really honest. Like in the beginning of the book he says he's really honest but there's been many times where he could have told Daisy about Tom's affair so she can get away from him but didn't. That's something that really bothered me the most. The book also has a nice way of making the characters act really annoying especially Daisy.
ReplyDeletesomething that caught my intention was how much Gatsby was determined to get daisy no matter what it cost, either by money or well money. That's all it took to impress daisy to be honest. What cross the line however was when daisy ran over myrtle Gatsby willing would have said it was him driving.
ReplyDeleteTo me the interesting parts of the book would be anything involving Gatsby because the actions he does just to impress Daisy he's just super weird. I enjoyed reading the part when Gatsby got shot because it came out of no where and compared to everything else that's in this book it was really interesting. Something the author did to improve the book is the descriptions and attention to details. Prompt: Why is Daisy such a bad person.
ReplyDeleteWhat was interesting to me in the book is everyone had a lie to them, all I kept reading was problem after problem. The part I enjoyed reading was Gatsby's confrontation with Tom and how the truth about Daisy came out about who she really has feelings for and who she was.The technique that the author used is how he made it seem as if Daisy was just trying to get herself together and do the right thing for herself when in reality she was confused to who she loved (even though she loved Gatsby most), caused problems between people, and still went for someone else while she was married.
ReplyDeleteThe story was really interesting. The way, the author wrote about Gatsby trying to make the past happen again. Did Gatsby know the entire time that he couldn't make the past happen again?Did he really love Daisy or was it just to get back everything he lost?
ReplyDeleteA part that I found interesting about this book is that Daisy does not care about anyone. This is because Daisy got a dog and she did not even take care of it. She was married to Tom and did not even love him and Gatsby loved her to and she didn't do anything about that either. She also hit someone with a car its like she does not even have any emotion.
ReplyDeleteit was interesting that in the beginning of the book nick was honest. and said he was one of the most honest people he knows but as the story goes on his honestly starts fading out.
ReplyDeleteFrom Yarely:
ReplyDeleteA part that I found interesting from the book was how nobody wanted to go to Gatsby’s funeral yet when Gatsby was alive everyone would want to go to his party’s. They would use him to have a good time yet nobody was there for him when he was dead. An essay prompt that I think would be fascinating is about how love affects us to do crazy things or if Gatsby was actually in love with daisy or just in love with the idea of having daisy.
From Jovanny:
ReplyDeleteOne thing I thought was interesting was how gatsby was trying so hard to get a girl he loved but ended off dying because of the girl he loved. I liked the part when gastby went to war.
One thing that was interesting to me about The Great Gatsby was that i never really understood what Gatsby worked in. They accused him of doing illegal things but the author never confirmed it or i probably wasn't paying attention. a part that i enjoyed reading was when Tom hit Myrtle in the nose because it was one of the parts that weren't so boring from the book. I think an idea for an essay prompt would be " Why does Daisy act the way she does ? Why didn't Gatsby just give up on her and why was Nick even trying to help out ? "
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting how Gatsby was so in love with Daisy that he would take the blame for murder just so she would be out of trouble. Such a wise rich man can have a massive character flaw which ultimately can be said as the cause of his death. The book plot comes full-circle in a different kind of way than usual.
ReplyDeleteFrom Marcos:
ReplyDeleteThat Gatsby did so much things just for one moment. I enjoyed reading how Gatsby did so much to change the past just for him to get set up and get killed by the girl he likes.
When they kept adding characters that weren’t the realest people and either was something wrong with them or they just never told the truth. When I found out about Daisy I wondered why Gatsby was in love with such a horrible person who obviously was very careless towards others, and when I found out everything he did was for Daisy I was really surprised because she said she felt the same way about him when they confronted her husband she didn’t really feel the same.
ReplyDeleteFrom Guadalupe:

From Flavio:
ReplyDeleteThat Gatsby did so much things just for one moment. I enjoyed reading how Gatsby did so much to change the past just for him to get set up and get killed by the girl he likes.
From Adolfo:
ReplyDeleteWell one thing that made me interested was the characters and how they be dishonest and just being terrible human beings, so like the prompt I can think would be good is “describe the characters personality and traits”.
From Gladys:
ReplyDeleteSomething i found interesting in the book was that Nick was one of the only people that Gatsby trusted even though he barely knew him. Gatsby was around all those people at his parties every weekend and didn’t trust them at all. Nick shows up and suddenly he’s the only one who was ever invited to his parties. Gatsby saw something in Nick that was worth trusting. Gatsby told Nick things that he’s never told anyone else and Nick never let any of it slip to other people.
From Pablo:
ReplyDeleteI think it is interesting how Gatsby is willing to do so much and have so much patience with daisy. He is willing to do anything to have her back, I don’t think it’s very smart but it forsure shows how much he cares.
From Pimo:
ReplyDeleteSomething interesting from the book is that Nick arranges a reunion between Gatsby and Daisy, during this happening, Jordan tells Nick about Daisy and Gatsby's past relation. Then Gatsby and Daisy fall back in love but Daisy isn’t willing to get back with him. Gatsby then tells Nick one of his life stories. But many of the stories that Gatsby tells about himself turn out to be false or slightly true.
The part I enjoyed reading was when Gatsby & Daisy got into a car accident which killed Myrtle, Tom Buchanans girlfriend, even though Tom was Daisy’s Husband at the time.
The thing that the author used to make me observe was the fact that Tom snitched on Gatsby so that nothing would’ve happened to him or Daisy.
From Arian:
ReplyDeleteOne thing I like about this book is that it has a good moral to the book it showed what people you should really be spending your time with you should spend it with people that would be kind and loyal to you not someone that will play you for a fool so my idea for the prompt would have to be what makes Gatsby so great
I enjoy reading the book but what I didn't like was that Gatsby would do anything for Daisy. He love her so much that he would blame himself for anything for example the murder that Daisy did, Gatsby blame himself to keep Daisy out of trouble. A prompt that I think is " what would you do if you were Gatsby?".
ReplyDeleteFrom Carson:
ReplyDeleteAt the very beginning of the book it was confusing but then i got it A prompt is the story of The Great Gatsby is it believable why or why not?
Something I liked about the book was that Gatsby was portrayed as a man who had wealth but wasn't happy because he couldn't have Daisy. He does everything for her and she still lets him suffer for her mistakes which leads to his downfall. This seems something so far from reality yet so close to it. I think the essay should be that we add on to the end of the story because the end doesn't seem finished.
ReplyDeleteWhat I liked about Gatsby was that at the beginning it was really confusing I didn't really understand. But till the point were he got killed that's when everything started to connect really he was just a man trying to chase his dream girl and did what ever in his power to make her like him. But really he was getting played and that costed his life for something he didn't do and the girl of his dreams didn't have no remorse for his death.
ReplyDeleteSomething I’m curious about is why was Gatsby willing to literally anything for Daisy? What did he see in her? Why couldn’t Daisy give him a chance?
ReplyDeleteOne thing that i found interesting about the book was how much gatsby is pursuing daisy after what has happened between them. I would like the prompt to be something like "why does gatsby's life end like it ended in the book".
ReplyDeleteWhat was interesting in this book was that Gatsby didn't move on from a girl that he hasn't seen for 5 years and he ended up dieing because he didn't want to let go. The author suprised me with his way of using foreshadowing. A good essay prompt would be why was Gatsby so stuck with changing the past and not wanting to mover forward with his life.
ReplyDeleteSomething I found interesting was Gatsby was so sprung.I can't believe he'd throw parties every night just to see if Daisy would show up.She's a bad person because she didn't stop after she hit Myrtle. She's a terrible person for not taking the blame.Gatsby loved her so much that he took the blame.A prompt would be ''What's so great about Daisy''.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I found intresting about the book was the plot at the end of the book it taught you that you shouldn't try and change the past you should just continue on forward with your life. I also found intresting the characters like Daisy because even thpugh she was married and had a kid she did not love Tom and when Gatsby let that be known and said the Daisy loved him she did not deny it nor did she confirm it was almost as she was using him for personal gain because after the whole myrtle incident she never talked to Daisy and he ended up dead.
ReplyDeleteWhat I found interesting about the book was how hard Gatsby tried to get Daisy back. He moved close by her, he was going to take the blame of running over the lady and he worked hard to become rich. A prompt we can do is how can people be blinded by love and go to extremes to prove their love for someone.
ReplyDeletei enjoyed reading The Great Gatsby, i liked how Gatsby was so in love and naive that he would do anything for daisy, like throwing parties every night hoping that one day she would come to one of them,or like planning their whole "accidental" reunion.Honestly i think he went a little too far and came off to me as creepy but i still enjoyed it. An essay prompt i would suggest is how did Fitzgerald indicate that gastby was all that great?
ReplyDeleteWhat i liked about the book is that there were many situations that people come upon in real life that other books don't really even mention. I also enjoyed reading the book but there were a couple instances where i would get lost because too much was going on. A prompt that i think would be great is to choose an event that happened in the book that you can relate to.

ReplyDeleteOne thing that I found interesting about the book was how Gatsby really liked Daisy and he was willing to do anything for her. He even took the blame of a murder for her to protect her and other characters in the story were sneaking around with peoples spouses and keeping secrets from one another.
ReplyDeleteA prompt
Who was Gatsby and what type of person was he?
I somewhat did/not enjoy the book because I hate how Gatsby did so many thing to impress Daisy. Nor did he live for himself and at the end she didn't choose him. Prompt:"How would you feel if you were in place of Gatsby and why"
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading the part when Gatsby and Daisy were driving and Daisy runs over Myrtle. We later find out that Gatsby covers for her and later dies while Daisy could care less. Prompt: Why do you think Gatsby didn't care about the consequences?
ReplyDeleteWhat I like about the book is that daisy ran over some lady and didn’t even care to hesitate to even check if the lady was okay that was a funny part and also gatsby died & just some real life into this book 📖 it start off pretty boring but then it really got intense
ReplyDeleteFrom Jayleen:
ReplyDeleteThe thing that I found interesting and really sad was that no one wanted to go to Gatsby's funeral-- not even Daisy bothered to show up, even after Gatsby took the blame when she killed Myrtle, even though she was married to Tom. After all that, Gatsby still loved Daisy, and she didn't even show up.
Something that caught my attention was that Gatsby took the blame for daisy and he got caught killed for it and she didn't even bother showing up to his funeral. It just shows that you could do the most for someone and they could still turn there back on you
ReplyDeleteWhy would nick cover up other peoples mistakes even though he said he was a very honest person? Such as how he knew that daisy killed myrtle and not Gatsby.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that was interesting to me was that no one showed to Gatsby's funeral even though they said they cared about him. I enjoyed reading the part where the plot started to thicken, when we started putting the pieces together and understanding what has been going on the whole time. The author did a really good job making us think about Gatsby's past and really try to know his background. My suggestion for the essay prompt is Why did Gatsby love Daisy so much even though he wasn't sure if she loved him the same way he did.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that was interesting to me was Gatsby will do anything to love Daisy even tho Daisy was using Gatsby. The part i enjoyed reading the most was the ending when Nick decide to leave Jordan and go back home because hes scared it could happen to him. Foreshadowing was the technique that got me to sit back and make connections. Prompt: Why did Gatsby loved Daisy so much even though she didn't.
ReplyDeleteOne interesting thing from that Great Gatsby that stood out from the others was that Gatsby was crazy in love with Daisy. This man would change his life probably even himself just to be with her. But compared to her she was just heartless not to show up to his funeral and she ran away with Tom.Prompt- How can people love someone so much and get hurt and still love the same person that hurt them?
ReplyDeleteTo make it more about the Great Gatsby- How can Gatsby have a great heart for Daisy but she is just a heartless human being?
That Gatsby did so much things just for one moment. I liked reading how Gatsby did so much to change the past just for him to get set up and get killed by the girl he liked.
ReplyDelete
